Underwater Adventures

Discover Squamish's underwater natural world
A long time mecca for mountain sports, Squamish has been explored to nearly every corner. Enthusiasts flock to the Sea-to-Sky because of its spectacular mountains, yet considerably less people stop to play underneath the surface in Squamish’s ocean playground.
Did you know that Howe Sound offers over 300 sq. miles of sheltered islands, hidden bays, and rich vibrant waters? It’s wild, remote, and ripe for adventuring!

Ocean Activities
Scuba Diving
BC is North America’s top cold water diving destination, and Howe Sound has it all! Scuba dive artificial reefs, anemone walls, shipwrecks, and even see giant octopus and rare glass sponge reefs. Both shore diving and boat diving are available nearby. Top dive sites include Porteau Cove, the HMCS Annapolis wreck, and Halkett Wall (Gambier Island).
Snorkeling
There is no need to travel abroad to snorkel with friendly schools of fish or colorful sea stars… you can see it all just a few minutes down the road. Snorkel with seals, view the wonderful fish, anemone and rock formations, even search for lost treasure. Throw on a wetsuit to keep you warm and buoyant, and hop in for an adventure like no other.
Free Diving
Discover the underwater world in the most natural way by holding your breath. We recommend taking a course so that you can be properly trained to freedive in a fun and safe way. You'll want to know basic knowledge to safely freedive, inlcuding breath-holding, relaxation, statics and Free Immersion (FIM) on the dive line, and equalization techniques.

Use Information
Good instruction keeps you safe and sets a solid foundation as you progress into the more dynamic disciplines of any underwater sport. A lesson may be the difference between a good experience and a great one- and also life or death. Divers should be certified in coldwater and dry suit diving.
The wind is calmest in the mornings and evenings. Diving and snorkelling are best done during a slack tide.
Never dive or enter the water alone
Howe Sound can be quite cold. You'll want at least a wet suit in the summer and a dry suit in the winter, depending on the activity you are doing. Always be prepared with the necessary equipment and gear needed for cold water diving and swimming
