ARTIST TALK - Lone Tratt Retrospective Exhibition

At 7pm on April 1st, meet Lone in the upstairs gallery. The artist will guide participants around her exhibit, discussing each piece with participants and answering questions.

This event is presented by The Brackendale Art Gallery Society, supported by funding from a District of Squamish's 2025 Arts & Culture Grant, administered by Squamish Arts. The evening is free to attend, and the show is also free to view during operating hours and during evening events.

The Brackendale Art Gallery is celebrating the career of Lone Tratt, one of Squamish's premier painters in a captivating exhibition celebrating decades of artistic excellence. This career-spanning showcase features an extraordinary collection of acrylic paintings, each reflecting Lone's evolving vision and unparalleled mastery of the medium. From dynamic landscapes to abstract explorations, the exhibition offers a glimpse into the depth and breadth of Lone's creative journey. Renowned for their ability to evoke emotion and spark conversation, Lone's work leaves a lasting impression on the viewer, and this retrospective is a rare opportunity to experience the full scope of their artistry.

Artist Statement I paint because I am completely enraptured by the beauty of nature surrounding me. I am captivated by a multitude of dimensions: depth, harmony, form, line, volume, space and colour. These observations touch my soul and it is these mindscapes that appear on my canvases and etchings. My work encompasses my desire to capture the vastness of the universe, while offering a structure that helps define and explain the enormity of it all. At the periphery, I paint using multilayered glazes of thin, filmy colours. As I move toward the centre of things, I lavish the canvas with pigment in thick, textured strata, using colours that become ever more saturated. My pieces have a core of intensity where there is a powerful tension between the rigidly composed elements and the desire to break free of those contraints. My goal is to reveal the hidden beauty of nature.
